The Geneva Kiwanis Club 2011-2012 year is nearly at an end. Looking back, it has been a very successful year. We have added five new members, bringing about a 15 percent increase in membership. Of the two members we lost, one was Past President and Past Lieutenant Governor Ron Peltoma, a great and devoted Kiwanian. His loss is deeply felt. Our finances have improved as the budget has been balanced. All of the committee chairmen have stayed within their budgets, a key to having a successful club. Our negotiations with the city for a new lease for the baseball field were unsuccessful, but we emerged a stronger club regardless. We entered into a partnership with the Geneva Little League to improve the field. Much has been done in that regard already, with more improvements in progress. We have reached out to our Key Club for a stronger partnership. While our efforts have not been entirely successful, we think we have a plan in place to improve the relationship and cooperation between the clubs. Last spring we sent a representative (Katie Peck) to the Key Leader program. We feel this will pay great dividends. Our Aktion Club has been a great asset. Its members have been an important part of our fundraising efforts and have attended some of our events, including the Captains' Minor League baseball game recently. We had four successful fundraisers, taking on two more pancake breakfasts than in the past. We have high hopes that our Grape JAMboree sales will be a success, enabling us to provide more services to the community. Our meetings have improved, with our move to Best Friends Restaurant proving mutually beneficial. We have brought interesting and informative programs to the club, almost on a weekly basis. We now have a website and are constantly working on improvements to it. Much remains to be done. We must continue to improve our finances, attract new members, work with Key Club, implement new fundraisers and improve the park. The road is a long one. But we have taken great strides this year and will continue to do so in the future.
